Philadelphia Restaurant news
PHILADELPHIA, November, 2003 – Visiting some popular neighborhood drinking spots once meant chowing down on spicy buffalo wings, salty peanuts and stale chips. Today, Philadelphia’s bar scene has evolved with some of the city’s most popular watering holes offering gourmet dining options and signature cocktails.
Philadelphia
Bridgid’s – This popular Fairmount hangout serves Belgian dishes and a great selection of Belgian and local brews. The small tavern’s no-smoking policy makes it a popular choice for neighborhood regulars. Some favorite dishes are filet Roquefort and salmon Dijon. Kitchen is open until 11:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and until 9:00 p.m. on Sundays. 726 N. 24th Street, (215) 232-3232
The Latest Dish – The menu at this South Street nightspot is as eclectic as the decor. Enjoy comfort food and drinks at great prices in a casual, fun setting. The full dinner menu is served until 1:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday; a smaller bar menu is served until 1:30 a.m. On Sundays, the full menu is available until 1:00 a.m. and the bar menu until 1:30 a.m. 264 S. 16th Street, (215) 545-7005, www.monkscafe.com
New Wave Café – This friendly bar, a mainstay of Queen Village for almost 19 years, has transformed half its space into a café serving upscale continental food, including lobster risotto and deluxe burgers. Once known as a waiting room for patrons of the overflowing Dimitri’s across the street, New Wave has established its own set of regulars. Kitchen is open until 1 a.m. 784 S. 3rd Street, (215) 922-8484, www.newwavecafe.com
Nodding Head Brewery & Restaurant – Expect large portions and low prices at this Center City tavern. Menu highlights include standard pub fare along with fresh fish, seafood, vegetarian and vegan options. The fries are award-winning and so is the brew.
