COVERED BRIDGE DRIVING TOUR
OFFERS EXCELLENT AUTUMN EXPERIENCE
Country Back Roads of Historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania,
Deliver a Brilliant View of Fall Foliage
Bucks County, PA, August 28, 2002 – The birthplace of the covered bridge, Pennsylvania still has 219 of the 1,500 covered bridges that once dotted its countryside – the largest number in the country. A new driving tour, offered by the Bucks County Conference and Visitors Bureau (BCCVB), features five of these picturesque bridges, originally constructed to protect bridge trusses from bad weather. The tour is now available on the BCCVB’s Web site at www.experiencebuckscounty.com.
The Bucks County covered bridge driving tour guides visitors to the Loux, Cabin Run, Frankenfield, Erwinna and Uhlerstown covered bridges. The tour leads visitors along paths once used by Native Americans, Tory outlaws and wild beasts. It incorporates story and legend into the tour text, derived from the pre-Revolutionary and early American history of Bucks County. The last leg of the drive is along Route 32 (River Road), considered the most picturesque road in the region. The tour ends in the prosperous artist colony of New Hope.
