17th ANNUAL JAM ON THE RIVER
BRIGHTENS MEMORIAL DAY IN PHILADELPHIA
ON FESTIVAL PIER AT PENN’S LANDING
Philadelphia, PA (April 19, 2002) – The 17th Annual Jam on the River – the kick-off to summer fun in Philadelphia – is taking place on Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday, May 25, Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27, 2002 from 12:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing.
Thousands of guests were attracted to Jam on the River for its first year on Festival Pier at Spring Garden and Columbus Boulevard. With marvelous music, fabulous food, creative crafts, and interactive fun, this music and food festival will again be packed with entertainment all three days of Memorial Day Weekend.
The music is one of the major aspects of this festival and includes rock, R&B, gospel and blues and includes these acts: RatDog, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Little Feat, Better than Ezra, Doc Gibbs & Picante, Marcia Ball, Billy Bob Thornton, The Ivan Neville Band, The Radiators, Pat McGee Band, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Marva Wright and the BMWs, The Cousins, Terrance Simien, Levon Helm and the Barn Burners, K-Floor, BR5-49, Town Hall, Alligator Zydeco Band, Pete Francis, Poppa Grows Funk and the Gospel Jam. There are two stages with entertainment running throughout each day from 12:30 through 9:00 p.m. Each show is one hour except for the last show of the day, which runs from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m.
As the music appeals to a wide range of tastes, the food is as eclectic as the talent line up. Presenting influences from Philadelphia and New Orleans, two cities known for their bold tastes, the diverse offering includes Jambalaya, Crawfish Monica, Po’ Boys, Alligator on a Stick, Philly Cheesesteaks, Buffalo Wings, Bar-B-Que and much, much more.
From Independence Blue Cross Junior Jam with a myriad of activities for children to the Ford Extreme Games for teens and fun-loving adults, there’s something for everyone at Jam on the River. "Extreme"ly entertaining is the interactive fun that makes the festival jump with excitement. Ford Extreme Games included this year are the Orbitron, the Rock Climbing Wall and Super Trampoline. The Independence Blue Cross Junior Jam for kids is their own little mini-Jam featuring crafts, games and other cool things to keep them busy. And the Craft Marketplace includes everything from artisans’ jewelry to do-it-yourself hats -- colorful keepsakes and reminders of Jam on the River 2002.
