PHILADELPHIA FRINGE FESTIVAL CELEBRATES ITS FIFTH ANNIVERSARY

Unique Venues Are Just Part of the Fun

PHILADELPHIA, August 8, 2001 -- It’s monumental year number five for the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, a 16-day event in Old City beginning on August 31 that features a diverse (and sometimes unusual) spectrum of work including theater, dance, performance art, music, poetry and puppetry. In years past, audiences have jammed into odd performance spaces such as an abandoned car, a warehouse, a restaurant and a diner as well as traditional venues like the Painted Bride and the Arden Theater to witness the exciting spectacles that are the Fringe. With hundreds of performances scheduled, this year’s festival promises to be just as inventive. Here are just a few highlights:
